In a special monthly series, ACS will feature a faculty member. We asked questions about why they are passionate about the subjects they study and teach, and how they found their path to ACS.
Faculty Spotlight: Mrs. Barbara Olivier
What is your educational background?
I have been a part of ACS, teaching 3rd grade, since 2011. Before coming to ACS, I taught for eight and a half years in Lafayette Parish where I taught grades 4th-7th.
What inspired you to teach?
My 7th/8th grade science teacher & senior math teacher made an impact on my decision to be in the classroom. They taught with great enthusiasm & had a love for teaching. They were helpful, patient, & most of all encouraging.
What do you love about teaching at ACS?
I love the Christ centered environment as well as the close knit family & the relationships that I can build with staff, students, & their families. I also enjoy watching the students grow.
What do you hope students gain from being in your class?
I hope the students gain a sense of self-worth – who they are in Christ, a love of learning, & not to be afraid to make mistakes when trying.
Tell us a fun or interesting fact about yourself!
I enjoy traveling to see all that God has created. And this may seem odd, but I do love to eat! My family & I love to travel to places & try new foods. We’ve planned a few vacation spots just around food!
If you could have dinner with three people, alive or not, who would they be and why?
My oldest sister, Shannon, who is now with the Lord. Just to be able to spend more time with her.
My uncle, Jergen, (my dad’s oldest brother) from Germany. He was adopted after birth & my family was blessed a few years ago to meet him.
Julie Andrews – (Mary Poppins, My favorite movie) Who wouldn’t want to have her for a nanny?
